Cookie Johnson, wife of NBA legend Magic Johnson has played a massive role in his life. They have been married for over three decades now and she has been a constant source of support for Magic during hard times. Interestingly, Cookie’s roommate wanted to have a relationship with Magic before the two eventually met. Johnson first saw his future wife during a party at Michigan State University, his alma mater.

Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson was already a sensation even before his NBA debut. He attended Michigan State University and made a name for himself on the basketball team.

During a party, he was introduced to Cookie, who later on went on to become his wife. When she hit the dance floor and Magic was instantly mesmerized. During an interview a while back, the NBA legend talked about how he met his wife.

Interestingly enough, it was Cookie’s roommate who wanted to date Magic before her. She had confessed her interest in the basketball phenomenon three weeks prior to the party.

Johnson said, “What was crazy — you’re gonna love this — her roommate had told her three weeks earlier that ‘I got to get Magic Johnson.’ Her roommate told her, ‘I’m gonna meet Magic Johnson, he’s going to be my boyfriend.’ Isn’t that crazy?”

Magic eventually met Cookie and the rest is history. After dating for quite some time, the two tied the knot in 1991 and have been going strong ever since.

The sports world and the NBA world, in particular, were hit with some debilitating news in 1991. One of the biggest names in the league, Magic Johnson was set to retire as he had tested positive for HIV.

This happened just months after Magic’s marriage to Cookie. Moreover, she was pregnant with his first child. Cookie was a major source of support for Johnson during his health struggles and he has duly acknowledged her contribution on numerous occasions.
