Highly Popular Coach’s Sudden Firing Makes NBA World Question $2 Billion Team

The drama for the 2023 season continues yet again. After the surprising addition and trades by various organizations, the Atlanta Hawks made news yesterday by firing their head coach. Fans raise concern over the firing, considering the team’s performance this season. Though the Eastern Conference is not as tight as the West, there are a lot of underdogs to watch out for. 

Nate McMillan’s coaching experience did not seem sufficient enough for the Atlanta Hawks. After coaching the Portland Trail Blazers and Indiana Pacers, McMillan will now look to coach other teams after his dismissal by the Hawks. 

Firing raises concerns about Atlanta Hawks’ performance

Trae Young and Dejounte Murray have been two important guards for the Hawks. Both athletes’ need to handle and shoot the ball is something difficult to manage. McMillan has done a good job by giving equal weightage to both the ball handlers. However, the Hawks organization does not seem happy about the intermittent record of the team this season.

Trae Young and John Collins played a major role under McMillan’s assistance in bringing the team to playoffs, only to lose to the Miami Heat 4-1 in the first round. Previously in the 2020-21 season, the team impressed the fans by reaching the conference finals, though they suffered a heartbreaking 4-2 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. 

Nate McMillan who joined the Hawks in 2020 played a huge role in bringing the team to playoffs for two consecutive years. However, Hawks making it to the playoffs this year seems doubtful. The team stands as the 8th seed in the East with a record of 29-30. Fans believe McMillan’s sudden firing might cost the team a playoff spot this year.

Former Utah Jazz coach expected to top the list

Veteran coach Quin Snyder who coached the Jazz for eight years parted ways with the organization after citing a need for change from both ends. ESPN reporter Adrian Wojnarowski in his Instagram reported the above news stating, “The Hawks are planning a wide-ranging search, but one candidate expected to be at the top of the list: Former Utah Jazz coach Quin Snyder.”

Snyder played a major role for the Utah Jazz by bringing the team to playoffs for several years during his tenure. Assistant coach of the Hawks, Joe Prunty has been named the interim head coach of the Hawks.
