“Hostage Taking Has Bipartisan Support”: Nearly 3 Months After Making a Big Vow to America, Brittney Griner’s Wife Cherelle Issues a Strong Plea

Cherelle Griner, wife of controversial WNBA star Brittney Griner has played an important role in the latter’s release. The Phoenix Mercury star was detained in Russia and Cherelle was one of her biggest supporters during BG’s time in a Russian prison. Not only her wife, but Cherelle Griner also raised her voice for every American serving time abroad. As the seven-time WNBA All-Star begins to slowly transition into her normal life, Cherelle has not forgotten the plight of others.

Addressing her followers on Instagram, Griner’s wife posted a powerful message for the authorities. She rallied people to unite for the cause of bringing American citizens back home.

There are numerous American citizens who are serving time abroad. In many cases, their plight is forgotten and this is something that does not sit right with Cherelle Griner.

On her Instagram story, she shared a message from the Bring Our Families Home Campaign. The message read, “Hostage taking is a rare problem that has bipartisan support. Look no further than the legislation for the codification of the flag. Returning home Americans unjustly held abroad must be a cause that unites us. Otherwise, we are playing into the captors’ hands.”

Cherelle Griner had made a similar plea a few months ago. The Joe Biden administration finally brought Brittney Griner back home after months of negotiations. During a press conference, Griner’s wife asserted that they will keep on working to help every American get back home.

Interestingly, she specifically mentioned Paul Whelan in her speech. Whelan is serving time in Russia and was supposed to be a part of the prisoner swap deal that brought Brittney Griner back to the United States of America. However, officials still haven’t found a solution to his problem.

Griner’s wife Cherelle was an important mouthpiece as she gave us updates about the WNBA superstar from time to time. The authorities arranged calls between the two. However, there were only two phone calls.

Following their conversation, Cherelle could feel something different with her wife. She asserted that Griner was at her lowest emotional state and she sounded exhausted and afraid. Thankfully, the officials acted in time and BG was back home with her family.
