Most arguments in sports can be settled by looking at the numbers. However, one that will never cease to exist is the debate over the best player of all time. The NBA has seen many players who broke the barriers of the game. But the main category is always championships.

And the Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry is heading into the conversation as he chases a 4th NBA title. Despite being successful in terms of winning, Tracy McGrady said he can’t be on the same list as Kobe Bryant or Michael Jordan. This left fans in a meltdown on Twitter.

Unlike most of the great players in the game, Steph had a slow start. The Baby Face Assassin had his early struggles with injuries which kept him from making a name for himself. However, when the time finally came, it was something no one had ever seen.

Curry created a new league where shooting became the bread and butter of the game. He changed basketball forever as his shooting prowess took over the hearts of fans. He even became the key part of one of the most successful dynasties in NBA history and is only adding to his resume.

But despite having all the achievements under his belt, T-Mac had a hard time putting him with the all-time greats.

Tracy McGrady feels Stephen Curry isn’t in the same class as MJ or Kobe

Speaking over Steph, McGrady did not doubt his greatness in any way. Acknowledging him as a successful NBA player, he said Curry is surely a part of the list. The NBA legend even said he had him quite high on the list.

However, McGrady doesn’t believe the Chef is in the same class as serial winners such as Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson, or Michael Jordan.

He said: “When it comes to putting him with MJ and guys that won that level of championships; Kobe and Magic, I don’t know where to rank him. I know he’s pretty high. But I think those guys are in a different class than Steph Curry.”

In basketball, ranking the all-time players is all up to opinion. Kobe and Jordan were cold-blooded killers ready to do anything to win. They had to be the ones taking their team home. On the other hand, Curry is arguably the most unselfish superstar in the NBA. But that doesn’t take away from how he has revolutionized the game.

Curry is the sole reason a three-point era began in the game of basketball. Breaking every possible record from beyond the arc, he is already the king of three-pointers. In addition, Steph is the only player in NBA history to win a unanimous MVP, something no other great could achieve.

Not having a Finals MVP has greatly dictated the legacy of Stephen Curry. However, the Baby Face Assassin has overdone himself in all other parts of the game. Arguably one of the most impactful players of all time, Curry only continues to make history.

And if he manages to win the Finals MVP with the Warriors, Curry will only skyrocket further ahead on the list. What are your opinions of T-Mac’s take? Let us know in the comments below.
