Brittney Griner‘s differences with the college staff and the coach troubled her a lot. She talked about how the coach would show two different faces. In her 2014 memoir (In My Skin: My Life On and Off the Basketball Court), Griner wrote, “I don’t think Kim is homophobic, but I do think she was hypocritical when it came to me. She worried too much about what other people might think, and not enough about what I myself actually did think.”

In addition, Mulkey also was very curious about Griner’s love life and she would regularly have heart-to-heart conversations about ‘girl problems’. The first time coach Mulkey addressed BG’s problems about her love life, she sounded as if she was speaking a ‘foreign language’, according to the WNBA star.
