Dennis Rodman has never been too far away from messy situations and controversies. He established a bad boy image during his early stint with the Detroit Pistons where he won two NBA championships. However, Rodman found it tough to continue his association with the Pistons and was traded away to the San Antonio Spurs in 1993. During his time with the Spurs, the former ‘Bad Boy’ found himself in a painful situation after a horrifying incident with Boston Celtics legend Dave Cowens.

Back in 2020, Dave Cowens made a revelation about witnessing a scary incident that could have been the end of the road for Dennis Rodman’s career. While Rodman did not get along with the Celtics, he became friends with Cowens and also invited the Boston legend on a road trip. At that time, Cowens was the assistant coach of the Spurs. He revealed a gut-wrenching story behind a road trip that almost saw Rodman lose his life.
Rodman has always been a big fan of motorcycles. He planned a road trip with a bunch of friends from San Antonio to Luckenbach, Texas. The five time-NBA champ also invited Dave Cowens who owned a Harley-Davidson. Cowens stated that Rodman’s riding group had around 4-5 members with a big-wheeled truck following them.

Dave Cowens was handed the responsibility to make sure Rodman returned in one piece. During the trip, the group got separated between two traffic lights. While most of the group was ahead, Rodman and another rider were left behind. The group waited for the Bulls legend at a four-way intersection. Unfortunately, Dennis Rodman and his fellow rider did not notice the stop sign and ended up slamming their bikes into it.

The impact caused Rodman to fly off his bike, and sustain a number of injuries. As per Cowens, his elbows were bruised, his white t-shirt was torn and his jeans were smoking due to the hard ground. Cowens added, “So they put him in the truck, I told them to take him to the hospital.”

The Celtics legend advised that Rodman needed to go to a hospital as he seemed in a lot of pain. However, the two-time All-Star refused to go get his wounds treated. But, Cowens did not listen to Dennis Rodman and even informed the Spurs management about the incident.
