It has been some years since Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade began their love story together. Both have spoken about the ups and downs they faced throughout the years. The time they have spent with each other has taught them a lot, and their love has undoubtedly grown stronger over the years. 

There is never a dull moment when fans see both of them supporting one another, walking on the red carpet with their fashion styles, and celebrating love like no other. They met in 2007 when Wade was in the middle of a divorce from his high school sweetheart Siohvaughn Funches. 

It became apparent that both the actress and former NBA player were dating each other. However, it took a long time for the divorce to be finalized. 2010 marked the finalization of the divorce. Wade and his ex-wife have two children: Zaire and Zaya. Following the divorce, Wade was awarded full custody of his kids. 

The couple spoke openly about their relationship and Wade’s divorce during an interview. Wade expressed the position that he is right in that situation once. “My divorce was taking forever. She wound up having 13 different lawyers in the process. So every time you get a new lawyer, the case starts over,” Wade explained in a 2020 ESPN documentary called ‘D. Wade: Life Unexpected’.

“I’m having a hard time having a relationship with my kids, seeing my kids. A lot of times she would not bring them out and I would have to get the police involved to find her. … It became ugly and nasty.” 

Dwyane Wade opened up about his divorce from his ex-wife

When it comes to custody battles, Wade explained that you can’t win. The divorce was finalized, and Wade got custody of the children, but he still had to pay $5 million in divorce proceedings.

The relationship Wade had with his ex-wife and the relationship he currently has with Union have been very open to Wade’s fans. As the couple went through a difficult time when they took a break from dating back in 2013. 

While on a break, Wade was dating actress Aja Metoyer, and after a while, he discovered that she is pregnant. However, it did not work out between them. Wade and Union subsequently tied the knot in 2014. The couple then welcomed a daughter named Kaavia through surrogacy in 2018.
