Over the years, Shaquille O’Neal has been transparent about his past relationships. Notably, his most known is arguably his marriage with Shaunie Henderson. The couple has four children of their own and were together for nearly a decade. However, the Big Diesel admitted to being unfaithful, which eventually ended their marriage. But that doesn’t seem to be all. In his book, ‘Shaq Uncut: My Story’, the four-time champion revealed the difficulties Shaunie faced being married to an athlete.

The pair met when Shaq joined the Los Angeles Lakers. The star center was the first athlete the television personality dated. The two quickly started their relat after meeting in 1996. Within just the first few years, they had Shareef and their daughter Amirah Saana. To the outside, their relationship seemed to be a pairing of dreams. However, that wasn’t the case.

During this time, Shaquille O’Neal was the most dominant force in basketball. Notably, he had one objective, to win. When that didn’t happen, frustrations set in, even at home. In his book, Shaq revealed how he took it all out on his ex-wife, Shaunie Henderson.

During his tenure with the Lakers, everyone expected Shaq to win. However, it took him a few years to get success. In addition, several publications were critical of him at this time. Shaq is known to not respond well to criticism. His demeanor started to drop around the house. Shaquille O’Neal also claims it was difficult for Shaunie to be the wife of an athlete.

According to Shaq Uncut, he wrote, “It’s hard to be married to a professional athlete. We’re locked into this one thing—to win a championship—and when it doesn’t work out, well, we’re not all that fun to be around. We’ve also got people pulling at us all the time and sometimes we forget to push them away. Besides, I was moody around the house. If I read a bad article that someone wrote about me, I’d take it out on my wife. I admit I was a male diva.”

Shaquille O’Neal went on to win three consecutive championships during his tenure with the Lakers. However, up until 2010, there were many losses. Moreover, his feud with Kobe Bryant arguably could not have helped. The couple managed to work out their differences in 2007. However, that wasn’t enough. Shaunie Henderson filed for separation in 2009 and the couple officially split in 2010. Since then the pair have been fantastic co-parents to their six children.
