San Antonio Spurs join the race for Kyrie Irving

A team that has not made much noise till very recently joined the race for Kyrie Irving’s sweepstakes. The San Antonio Spurs, according to sources, are ‘extremely’ busy after Kyrie Irving trade demand. According to a report by Spurs Talk, the team’s phone lines have gotten noisier with frequent calls from Brooklyn. The source in the report said, “It’s an extremely busy room right now. There’s a lot of talk and there’s a lot of pressure being applied from a number of different angles.”

The Spurs have the highest salary cap in the league, standing at a whopping $27 million leaving all the room in the world to onboard Irving. No other team in the league even comes close to the cap space of Greg Popovich’s Spurs. Interestingly, the insider also revealed, “The Nets have specifically told teams they’d be most interested in Josh Richardson and Zach Collins from the Spurs”

The Nets, who potentially stand to lose both their stars, are undoubtedly gearing up for a rebuild. The top brass recently sidelined Irving till the trade deadline. It also explains the interest in Richardson and Collins. Both the players are not owed any guaranteed money beyond this season. The Spurs are also the perfect suitors for absorbing inflated contracts.

Before the Spurs emerged as a likely destination for Irving, the Los Angeles Lakers were the favorites. But Hollywood’s team on paper has many roadblocks ahead of the potential trade. In fact, Jeanie Buss and Rob Pelinka may have to move heaven and earth to make it possible. Consequently, amid the celebrations in San Antonio, Lakers Nation has slipped into major hysteria.
