The 2022-23 NBA season is now at an exhilarating period where top teams in each conference are battling for a spot in the Finals. However, one name has taken center stage despite the excitement of the playoffs: Victor Wembanyama. The French starlet has been in the spotlight for the past few months. However, things have double-folded ever since the draft lottery. The hype around Wembanyama is unreal and many expect him to be one of the best players ever. But some feel the hype is too much and it could set him up for failure, including a former Washington Wizards star.

Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, and NBA legend Hakeem Olajuwon are some of the biggest names in basketball. Many fans would have Olajuwon in their top 10. However, one analyst claimed Wembanyama would be a disappointment if he was just as good as Davis, Durant, or Olajuwon.

Is Victor Wembanyama being set up for failure?

NBA analyst Chris Broussard recently made an outrageous claim about Victor Wembanyama. During one of the First Things First segments on Fox Sports, Broussard stated that Wembanyama will have a better career than Anthony Davis. He then reportedly claimed that it would be a “disappointment” if the 7’4″ center’s career was on par with Davis, Kevin Durant, or Hakeem Olajuwon. Furthermore, he added that he expects him to have a career like Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Tim Duncan, or Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Understandably, this take was met with a lot of stick.

Co-host Nick Wright was not in agreement with the claim. He made it clear via Twitter that the young star was being set up for failure. Now, former NBA star Gilbert Arenas has given his thoughts about Broussard’s comments during an episode of the Gil’s Arena podcast.

Arenas could not believe the outlandish take of the analyst and did not hold back. He said, “These American journalists has already handicapped you bro. They said, ‘If you KD, you didn’t make it.’ So you might as well just go and stay the f**k in France and just opt-out of this bulls**t because this is some bulls**t.”

He added there is no way people will consider Wembanyama better than Jordan, LeBron, Kobe Bryant, or O’Neal. So he expressed that the Frenchman is set up to fail. Also, Arenas and the crew could not believe that Hakeem’s and Durant’s careers are not taken seriously.
