Hollywood superstar Will Smith sent shock waves around the world when he slapped fellow superstar and comedian Chris Rock during the Oscars. This was after the comedian made a funny remark about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett’s bald head. As celebrities watched this go down, no one intervened. After the slap, an emotional Smith came back to his seat. Moments later, he received the Best Actor award for the movie ‘King Richard.’ While receiving the award, he wept and apologized for his actions.

Immediately after the ceremony, he received a lot of backlash from all corners. From fans to celebrities to sports superstars to legends, everyone ripped him apart for slapping Chris Rock. Will Smith then posted an emotional apology video for his actions. However, not many were convinced by his apology. Many still believe he got away easily despite the ten-year ban by the Oscars.

A few months later, the issue is now settled down a bit. Recently, Smith joined NBA veterans Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson as his new movie ‘Emancipation’ was all set for release.

In the ‘All the Smoke’ podcast, Will Smith discussed some interesting things with hosts Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson. At one instance, the inevitable question about the slap came up. Barnes asked Smith what he has learned about himself after that Oscar night. Smith referred to the night as “horrific” for him. He stated, “That was a horrific night man. That was a horrific night.”

Jackson then defended Smith’s actions saying, “All the real ones who understood ‘I’m going to stand for my wife whether I’m right or wrong in any place.’ So I understood that. I don’t care what you say, nobody can make me think that anything you did was wrong.”

Even though the former NBA champion defended Smith’s slap, Smith did not agree with the notion. He then talked about he was left speechless after his nephew questioned him about the slap while holding Smith’s Oscar. The superstar was very emotional talking about it and needed tissue to wipe his tears.

After the whole ordeal, Will Smith and his family walked the red carpet for the first time. The actor attended the Los Angeles premiere of ‘Emancipation,’ with his wife Jada Pinkett Smith, and their children. The movie has received mixed reviews so far. Some believe Smith should be in the running for the Best Actor award once again for his performance. It will be interesting to see how it pans out.
