Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is one of the giants of the game. With 38,387 points, he is the all-time leader in points in NBA history. After his retirement in 1989, the Lakers legend became an author and penned several books. Nowadays, the 6-time NBA champion can also be seen writing newsletters on his website Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He recently penned his thoughts on the founder of the company Patagonia, giving away his wealth for a noble cause.

The Hall of Famer is a best-selling author, writer, social activist, and philanthropist, in addition to being a successful athlete.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar shares his views about Yvon Chouinard’s contribution

In his website Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, he put his thoughts forward on the billionaire Yvon Chouinard giving up his entire company for a social cause. The 83-year-old founder of the outdoor apparel brand Patagonia has given up his $3 billion firm to fund projects that help the environment.

After seeing Yvon’s contribution to society, the 75-year-old Laker legend presents his thoughts by writing “I’m in awe. And that takes a lot to achieve at my age.” Then we see Kareem addressing what people are saying, “What’s the catch?”

Kareem writes about the catch. “Over the years as we’ve seen large corporations bragging about their community contributions with one hand while continuing to pick the public’s pocket with the other hand.” Jabbar penned his thoughts on other large firms and provided a perfect example. However, talking about Patagonia and its founder, he ended on a positive note by saying, “Mr. Chouinard’s actions cheered me up and renewed my faith in altruism, as I hope it does for you.”

Jabbar’s contributions off the court

Jabbar himself is a social activist. Over the years, he has fought for racial and religious equality and diversity. Throughout his life, he has written and co-written various publications to benefit society. He has authored seventeen books, four of which were part of the bestselling Mycroft Holmes series.
