Former Miami Heat superstar Dwyane Wade has been making the headlines recently due to his ongoing legal battle with ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches. The whole fiasco began back in August 2022 when Wade filed a gender and name change petition in court for his 15-year-old daughter Zaya, who came out as transgender in 2020. In response, Funches appealed to the court to reject Wade’s request and the matter only turned uglier. Amidst all that, Wade’s wife Gabrielle Union posted a family photo on social media recently that is winning hearts.

After Wade filed the request, Funches filed a petition of her own claiming that she was not informed about the plans of changing Zaya’s name. According to certain ‘proofs’ provided by her lawyer, as part of their divorce arrangement, Wade was required to include her in every decision-making aspect that concerned their kids. However, Wade claimed that he had the authority to ‘make decisions on her behalf’.

Funches accuses Wade of trying to profit off of their daughter

Following Dwyane Wade’s gender change request, ex-wife Siovaughn Funches filed a petition objecting to the former NBA superstar’s plea. Funches accused Wade of ‘pressuring Zaya for financial gain’. She stated that the 13x NBA All-Star had allegedly told her that, ‘a lot of money had been already made and that additional money will be made in relation to our child’s name and gender issue’.
