KD was just 11 years old back then and witnessing his Aunt pass away in his childhood home really left a mark on him. On top of that, his first AAU coach was murdered at the young age of 35. Durant missed the All-Star weekend due to his grandmother’s demise

The 2021-22 season All-Star Weekend honored the NBA’s 75th anniversary and had almost all the stars in attendance. However, Durant was nowhere to be seen.

He missed the game and all the festivities due to his grandmother’s death. Wanda Durant, mother of Kevin Durant had announced that her mother had passed away back in February 2021. Durant was already set to miss the All-Star game as he was sidelined with an injury during that period.
