In fact, the 14x All-Star was completely inspired by His Airness. Dirk Nowitzki was the star of the Dallas Mavericks. In a recent interview with Graham Bensinger, he recalled his encounter with Michael Jordan. He spoke about his dreams and hopes to play with his “idol“.
Jordan had retired after his sixth championship with the Chicago Bulls. But that year was when Nowitzki started playing in the league. “I was super frustrated and disappointed not getting to play against my hero“.

Nowitzki recounted how even the German media had flocked to the courts, knowing the presence of the two greats that day. Unfortunately during a morning practice session, Nowitzki got hurt by a tendon inflammation. He had to miss out on the game.
“Oh, I was crushed“, said Nowitzki.
