The NBA is infamous for its cutthroat competition and world-class standards. Not many survive the grueling 82-game schedule years on. Moreover, those who survive play auxiliary roles in veteran minimum contracts. Only the most elite and experienced players can command a significant chunk of a team’s balance sheets at an advanced age. Incidentally, a teammate of Jayson Tatum recently joined the short list of such players.

Al Horford, 36, has been in the NBA for over a decade. The 6’9” center, over the years, has made quite the name for himself by earning 5x All-Star selections. In the present day, Horford plays for the Boston Celtics; and from the looks of it, he will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

After the news came to light, the former No.3 overall pick, and the Celtics faced major backlash. Due to his advanced age, Horford does not command the similar frenzy of a young star signing with the team. Thus many fans have disapproved of Horford’s extension in line with a goal of sustained dominance in the future. However, some fans have lauded the team’s decision to retain Horford’s experience and leadership presence in the locker room. Regardless, the announcement received mixed reactions from fans.
