It was in the third quarter of game 6 of the NBA 2021-22 Finals when Stephen Curry launched a three-pointer and then made a bold claim. He looked at the Boston Celtics fans and pointed at his ring finger. “Put a (championship) ring on it”, yelled the broadcaster. With an entire quarter left in the game, at that very moment, one thing was certain. The two-time MVP was taking the Golden State Warriors to a title victory and there was no stopping. 12-odd minutes later, there it was, the Warriors were on top of the NBA world once again. Confetti covered TD Garden, and Curry broke down, a sight foreign to many.

For several minutes, his Warrior brothers hugged him while he was at a loss for words. Raw and unexplainable emotions were oozing out while he held the game ball and his team yelled, “Let’s go, come on, come on”. Cameras never left his side for the world couldn’t take its eyes off the man who led the Warriors pack to victory. Months after this movie-like ending to the 2021-22 season, Sonya Curry gave meaning to Curry’s display of emotions.

For two years, all that the Warriors heard was that their reign in the league was over. Hence, as Klay Thompson once said, this win did hit the Warriors differently. The chatter riled them up and kept them going. The Warriors and Curry had won yet another title while Curry had bagged the Finals MVP Award.

The lesson on Discipline

From winning the trophy to making records and earning a degree, the year for Curry was exceptional. His ability to do so much rises from the quality of discipline. The discipline of having a routine, working towards the goal, and staying in touch with reality. This is a quality that was drilled into Curry at a very young age.
