LeBron James is the name that is currently trending in the sports world and fans are well aware of the reason. Less than a week ago, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar was named the new all-time scoring leader after he broke NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s almost four-decade-old record. While LeBron accomplished the goal all on his own, certain people and media houses couldn’t help but bring forth the GOAT debate again. Consequently, Hall of Famer Charles Barkley clapped back at the ‘guilty’ party in his latest podcast episode.

After much anticipation, fans bore witness to the historic moment on February 7 at the Lakers’ home court where James took his total career tally to 38,390 in contrast to Abdul-Jabbar’s 38,387 points.

Charles Barkley has no tolerance for ‘lazy’ media

In the latest episode of The Steam Room, NBA analysts and co-hosts Charles Barkley and Ernie Johnson invited journalist Bomani Jones to talk about the latest updates in the sports world. Jones talked about LeBron James’ achievements and had nothing but praise for him. He also stated that the moment was all about LeBron and what he had accomplished and that the long-standing GOAT debate should not eclipse the historic moment.

In response, Barkley said, “I’m glad you are doing that because I think it’s just lazy. We got so many clowns on TV and radio now. Mike Wilbon [ESPN], who’s like a mentor to me, I love when I hear him talk about, on top he says, ‘It’s just lazy to try to compare’. Listen, Michael’s great, Kobe’s great, Kareem’s great. All these guys… Michael and obviously LeBron. But it’s just lazy, just because people want you to call into their radio show or they’re trying to get a hot click on television. It’s just lazy.”

Additionally, Johnson chimed in and said that instead of drawing comparisons between star athletes, people should appreciate their skills and the great games they put on for fans.

Sir Charles prefers LeBron James over Michael Jordan

Four months before calling out the media for being ‘lazy’, Charles Barkley had termed LeBron James’ story as the greatest sports story of all time. There is no doubt that the 4x NBA champion has created quite a legacy that only a select few athletes have in the league. However, given the former friendship and history between Barkley and Michael Jordan, one would think that the NBA veteran would choose the Chicago Bulls legend instead.
