Whenever an NBA star comments on another star player, it almost always makes headlines. Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo recently picked Stephen Curry over himself as the best basketball player in the world. This statement took place ahead of the Bucks’ matchup against the Golden State Warriors. This incident got much spicier after Curry’s response came out.

The ‘Greek Freak’ called the Baby-Faced Assassin the best basketball player, for the only reason that he holds the Larry O’Brien Trophy. He said, “I think the best player in the world is the person that is the last one standing, the person who takes his team to the finish line“. Since Stephen Curry holds the 2022 title and led his Warriors to glory, Giannis said he considers him to be the best.

Stephen Curry reacts to Giannis Antetokounmpo’s comments

The media later asked Curry for his response to Giannis Antetokounmpo’s statement. Curry, unaware of the statement said, “Thanks for telling me that“. He didn’t believe that was coming his way as he added, “I thought, you [reporter] were making it up“. The four-time NBA champion took that as a compliment and appreciated him for his gamesmanship.

He went along with Antetokounmpo’s view and said, “I was thinking the same thing about him last year“. Of course, the Milwaukee Bucks were the 2021 NBA champions after beating the Phoenix Suns in the Finals.

In fact, Curry didn’t stop there. He added, “It’s not going to soften me up to get complacent at all“. In the end, the Bucks came out victorious in the game against the Warriors, beating them 128-111 on the night. Antetokounmpo scored 30 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 assists as he led his side to the win over Curry and co. The reigning Finals MVP scored just 20 points in the game, nowhere near the numbers fans have come to expect from him this season.

Antetokounmpo’s statement is perhaps slightly contradictory to the current standings. The 2x MVP winner secured the no.1 rank in ESPN’s top 100 players rankings. The bucks are having a great run so far this season, currently placed second on the Eastern Conference table with a 20-7 record so far, while the Golden State Warriors are struggling in 10th place on the Western Conference table with a 14-14 record.
