“I’ve Felt Every Minute of the Grueling 7 Months”: Brittney Griner’s Wife Breaks Silence on Her Own Trauma Amid Rescue Efforts

WNBA star Brittney Griner is the subject of many news reports concerning the current situation about whether she would return to her country. President Joe Biden recently met Griner’s wife Cherelle Griner at the White House.

Following reports that came in around that meeting, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre shared some inside information with E! News. According to the report, they met in the Oval Office to discuss the current situation.

As part of the meeting, the President reaffirmed his “continued commitment to working through all available avenues to bring Griner home safely.” As part of that meeting, Biden also met Elizabeth Whelan, the sister of Paul Whelan.

He has been detained in Russia since 2018 and has been sentenced to 16 years in prison. “The President appreciated the opportunity to learn more about Brittney and Paul from those who love them most, and acknowledged that every minute they are being held is a minute too long,” she said in a statement.

Reports indicate that National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan also participated in the conversation with the president. Griner’s wife spoke out about her own trauma while rescue efforts are underway.

Fans were able to get a glimpse of her thoughts as she shared them on social media. “It was an honor to speak with him directly about the Brittney we know and love. I’ve felt every minute of the grueling seven months without her. I look forward to the day my wife is back home,” she said.

It’s a loss for the WNBA when it loses a player like her. The Olympic gold medalist is currently with the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA. The Russian government sentenced Griner in August to nine years in prison for drug charges.
