Jayson Tatum Enters Boston Celtics’ Record Books Following a 40-Point Scoring Outburst Against Raptors

January 5, 2021 9:52 am

Jayson Tatum put on a show as he helped the Boston Celtics comfortably win against the Toronto Raptors. In this game, the Celtics were severely shorthanded due to numerous injury troubles, but Tatum graciously led the team.

Tatum finished the game with 40 points, just one point shy off of his career high. Along with his scoring outburst, JT grabbed 6 rebounds and dished out 2 assists as well. Although Tatum couldn’t get past his career high, tonight’s performance gave him a place in Celtics’ history books. He has now become the only player in franchise history to have three 40 points game before turning 23-years-old.

The Celtics are one of the most historic franchises in the world, and have been home to NBA legends such as Larry Bird, Paul Pierce, and many more. However, no player has this unique record to their name. This shows the amount of talent the 22-year-old has under his belt.

Following this victory over the Raptors, the Celts have improved their record to 5-3 this season. Moving forward, they will hope to build on this victory and continue to improve their record as the season progresses.

Can Jayson Tatum finally end the Celtics’ championship drought?

The Boston Celtics are tied for the most NBA Championships for a franchise in league history. They have 17 championship banners hanging in the rafters, same as their long-time rivals LA Lakers. However, it’s been more than a decade since the Celtics have won a title.

The last time the team lifted the Larry O’Brien trophy was back in 2008 during their Big 3 era. Since then, they have gone through a little rebuilding phase and have found a new talented core pretty soon. Their current roster is led by Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, who have developed into phenomenal players over the last few seasons.

Regardless of their talents, the Celtics have struggled to find success in the playoffs. They always seem to reach the Conference Finals, but can never get over the hump. This season, there is a cutthroat competition in the Eastern Conference, but with the way Jayson Tatum is playing, he might finally get the job done this year.

What are your thoughts on his game and the expectations from the 22-year-old this season?
