Kevin Durant On Missing Out On History With The Warriors: “I Think About That Often”

The Golden State Warriors is one of the most dominating stretches of basketball to grace the NBA. Their team had stars all around. Likewise, they succeeded in winning back to back championships with Kevin Durant as the spearhead of the team. Hence, in 2019, everyone expected them to three-peat. However, things did not pan out in their favor.
Just like the previous 4 seasons, the Warriors were back to the NBA finals. However, this time, their opponents were the Toronto Raptors. Even though outmatched when it came to talent, the Raptors had the desire to win. For the first game, the Warriors took a surprise loss with Kevin out rehabbing his calf injury. Durant did not return until Game 5 of the finals.
While his return had all the hype, it did not end well as he got went off the floor with an ACL injury. On his podcast, Durant revealed that he still thinks about that moment.

Kevin Durant still thinks about 2019 NBA finals
While on his podcast, the question of the Warriors being close to history came up. The Bay was one finals win away from being the first team since Kobe’s Lakers to achieve a three-peat. But injuries ran through the series and they couldn’t pull through. Durant revealed how he still thinks about the series in 2019.

Durant said: “Like you said, this close with a few injuries getting in the way, like yeah I think about it often. Because that would’ve definitely set us on a different level. Each one of us individually as well.”

Not only was Durant out for the first four games, but along the way they also had Klay miss out in game 3. Despite all this, the Warriors kept the fight alive. They were down 3-1 when Durant made his return. But after playing for just 12 minutes, he went off the floor. Despite that, the Warriors managed to win that game. But the next game, they lost Klay, and that proved fatal.
