Kevin Durant rose among the ranks in his time with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Winning his only MVP with the organization, the Slim Reaper became one of the best scorers. However, Oklahoma was never supposed to be in the picture. The Seattle SuperSonics made their move on Durant with the number 2 overall pick.

But just after his first year, they relocated to Oklahoma. While speaking on Reddick’s podcast, KD spoke about the entire situation in Seattle.

Durant started off his young career winning Rookie of the Year in 2008. He had a really impressive season under the SuperSonics averaging 20.8 points per game in his rookie year. But the news floating around made it tough for him to decide on settling down.

While Durant did buy a house, things stirred up much quicker than anticipated as Seattle relocated to Oklahoma after just one year. On a recent episode of the Old Man and The Three podcast, the Slim Reaper spoke about the sad truth of the SuperSonics.

Kevin Durant was ready to settle in

With Durant spending just one season in Seattle, it was a hot topic of discussion on the podcast and KD held nothing back. He revealed how there was news all year about the SuperSonics shifting elsewhere. However, after a guarantee from the owners for a couple of years. Hence, Durant decided to buy a house to settle in the city. But only after his first year, the organization made its move.

Durant said: “See, they told us we will be there for at least three of four years so I settled in. Yeah, I bought a house.” He continued saying, “Towards the end of the year we just kept hearing, ‘Hold up, I think they making the change sooner than we thought. I remember we were in San Antonio, probably a week left in the season.”

“Clay Bennett came out and gave us three options for cities that they were looking at. San Jose, I think it was San Diego and then OKC. We was just like alright, you’re from OKC like we know what this is now,” he added.

So after his rookie year, Durant saw a shift in cities going to Oklahoma. However, that did not do anything to his game. Durant only increased the pace and soon became a fan favorite of the OKC fans.

The entry of Russell Westbrook and Harden only made things better. The trio even went all the way to the NBA finals losing out to LeBron James and the Miami Heat.

However, Oklahoma became home to Kevin Durant. He won his first and only MVP in 2014 playing for the OKC Thunder. While he did gain resentment after his move to the Warriors, there is no doubt KD remains to be one of the best players in the history of the Thunder organization.
