According to recent reports, Irving has signed a new agent. And the fans seemed excited about the Nets star’s latest development, wondering how an agent change might help the 2016 NBA Champion.

Kyrie Irving hires stepmother as his new agent

As per The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Irving has hired as Shetellia Riley Irving as his new agent. Additionally, Shetellia Riley (also his stepmother), is also the only Black woman who is now representing an active NBA player.

Though many fans were surprised with a mid-season agent change, they were excited for her to start working with Irving. Who was Irving’s previous agent?

Before working with Shetellia, Irving worked with Jeff Wechsler and Roc Nation. He started working with Wechsler in 2011, who was with him during his 2017 Boston Celtics move. They worked together till 2019 when Irving ended up teaming up with Roc Nation.

Roc Nation, who represented Irving for the past few years, also represents players like LaMelo Ball, and Robinson Cano. Their relationship with Irving did not last long, especially as they were fired by the NBA star last July.

Currently, Irving is signed to a four-year, $136,490,600 contract with the Nets. This deal earns him $34,122,650 per year, along with other incentives and bonuses. However, this makes him eligible for free agency after the 2021-22 season. That being said, the aforementioned player option will be available for the next campaign.

Even with a new agent working with Irving, one cannot predict what path he will take. Of course, staying in Brooklyn places Irving alongside Durant again, which could be another shot at the title. And with Ben Simmons on their team, the Nets will only look forward to coming back with a better pace to try and win the championship.
