The Boston Celtics are currently number one in the Eastern Conference and rightfully so. They have won 21 games in the season so far and lost just five. The Celtics recently played against the Phoenix Suns and obliterated them with a final score of 125-98. While the NBA world celebrated the win, so did Los Angeles Lakers legend, Magic Johnson. However, it did not go down so well with Lakers fans.

He was amused that the team had a 45-point lead over the second-placed Suns, who have dominated the Western Conference so far with a 16-9 record.

Bird and Magic were fierce rivals?back in the day. So, Magic’s admission that Bird’s team, the Boston Celtics, is the best in the league would undoubtedly come as a shock to the NBA world. The Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics were dominant dynasties for a long time. And these two proteges quickly became NBA champions and MVP winners.

Magic Johnson and Larry Bird transformed the NBA

ESPN said that their chemistry even changed the course of the league. It changed from a “minor” pro sport to the business it is today. It was also possibly because of them, that basketball became a well-rounded team game.

The Celtics and the Lakers already had a long-standing enmity toward each other. Add Bird and Johnson to the mix, and you have got two legendary players who often locked horns.

During an episode of ‘Club Shay Shay’, Magic Johnson said that their bond was fractured. “See, we hated them and they hated us. So we could never be friends,” Johnson explained.

Has Magic Johnson turned over a new leaf? Does his loyalty and allegiance lay elsewhere? The Lakers fans are certainly having none of it.
