The versatility of the NBA is such that every player has a vastly different role. In essence, a forward has varied duties, when compared to a guard. During the course of his magnanimous career, LeBron James has shone primarily as a forward. Meanwhile, Kyrie Irving is one of the most skilled guards in the league. However, a critical Skip Bayless, an acclaimed NBA analyst, recently tore apart the 29-year-old.

Even at the shaky age of 37, Lakers icon LeBron James is having the season of his life. Shouldering responsibilities of the franchise, he currently averages just over 29 points this year. A key reason for his success, has been his accurate shooting. On the other hand, Kyrie has only just returned to the game.

After months of hiatus, Irving made his much awaited return for the Nets last week. Although he has been slow off the blocks, his numbers across seasons speak for themselves. All the successful guards in the NBA have one thing in common; they can control the scheme of the match, while still excelling on the score sheet. Throughout his career, the 7-time All-star Irving has amassed close to 23 points on average. Yet, injuries have played spoil sport many-a-time. And although 4-time NBA champion James isn’t a guard, 70-year-old Skip Bayless recently iterated why he believes the 17-time All-star is a better guard than Kyrie.

Speaking on the ‘Undisputed: Skip and Shannon’ show, Bayless reprimanded Irving for not being influential enough. “His [Kyrie’s] career playoff average is 5 a game,” laid out the analyst-reporter. “It’s not… like, like, LeBron is way better, he’s a 100 times better as a distributor, a point guard, an orchestrator. Kyrie’s not an orchestrator.”

This was certainly a bold choice of words from Skip. Is LeBron the guard understated? Or is this merely a swipe at the Brooklyn Nets’ #11?
