LeBron James is on course to shutting off his critics as he approaches a unique record in the NBA. The four-time NBA champ is inching closer to taking over the highest league scorer honor from the Los Angeles Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. James is averaging 27 PPG this season and fans expect him to achieve the feat before the All-Star game. Recently, a 3-time NBA champ and LeBron’s former teammate reckoned that the Lakers superstar is targeting Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record ‘more than anything’, mostly due to his haters.
LeBron James has scored 593 points in 22 appearances this season. He was 1326 points away from Kareem at the start of the season. Thus, LBJ requires just 732 more points to become the highest scorer ever in NBA history. As LeBron races towards the milestone, his former Miami Heat teammate Dwyane Wade revealed why the 18-time All-Star aims to break Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record.
Why LeBron James wants to surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar?

In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Dwyane Wade was asked if he ever thought LeBron James would be close to becoming the all-time leading scorer in the NBA. The 2006 Finals MVP suggested that he was not surprised by his former teammate’s feat because he believed in LeBron’s ability to achieve unbelievable things. Moreover, Wade stated that the NBA was in the ‘LeBron James era of life’ and the people have not realized it yet.
Wade won two NBA championships alongside LeBron James in 2012-2013. He shared some details about the four-time Finals MVP’s nature on the court and why he wanted to achieve the scoring record. According to Dwyane Wade, “He’s not a selfish individual on a basketball floor. But I feel that if there is one record that LeBron wants to walk away with more than the assist record, it would be the scoring record. And it’s because of what people say he cannot do, right?”

The 13-time All-Star believed that LeBron wanted to own the all-time scoring record to prove his critics wrong. Moreover, Wade also claimed that it would take players a long time before they could even come close to James after he manages to break the record.

While talking about LeBron James’ greatness on and off the court, Wade indicated that the rare achievements came quite naturally to the 2004 Rookie of the Year. In addition, he shared that James would have the opportunity to bag a feat that could not be possibly be matched in the near future.
Dwyane Wade stated, “He now has an opportunity to be what we know it’s going to take somebody another 40 years before they are able to even come close to, right? So it’s amazing.”
