The Los Angeles Lakers finally seem to be coming back to their groove after a disappointing last couple of seasons. LeBron James and co. experienced one of the most embarrassing seasons in 2021-22 with a 33-49 record. Moreover, the Lakers started this season with a string of losses. However, the LA side have turned things around in the last ten games, winning eight of them.

The majority of the credit for the team’s success goes to Anthony Davis who has taken the center stage for the team. Recently, former Philadelphia 76ers star JJ Reddick suggested a ‘mad scientist theory’ behind the success of the LeBron James-led Lakers team in recent times.

The Los Angeles Lakers currently stand as the 13th seed in the Western Conference with a 10-12 record this season. Hence, the Lakers are still far away from playoff contention. But, the recent string of brilliance has revealed the potential of the Lakers that could possibly lead to a better run this time around.

Reddick deciphers the mantra behind the success of LeBron James & co.

In the recent iteration of The Old Man & the Three podcast, co-host Tommy Alter praised Anthony Davis for his commendable form. Meanwhile, JJ Reddick claimed that Davis was going through the form of his life, dominating both sides of the court.

Meanwhile, the former 76ers guard shared that Davis had averaged 35 points, 15.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.9 blocks, and 1.2 steals per game during his last nine appearances. However, Reddick refused to ascribe the Lakers’ recent success solely to the meteoric rise of AD.

In fact, the former Dallas Mavericks star suggested a ‘mad scientist theory’ behind the success of the Los Angeles Lakers. Reddick stated, “It’s very hard to have a good offense. It’s very hard to have a good offense if you don’t have shooting.”

Reddick pointed out through a chart that the difference between the top ten and bottom ten offensive teams is a stark difference in shooting efficiency or true shooting percentage. However, the Lakers have been able to circumvent their issue with shooting because by spacing the floor effectively.

The Lakers’ chances this season

He further reckoned that the narrative for LeBron James and the team could change this season if Anthony Davis continues to play like a top-five player. Reddick also highlighted that the Lakers needed to figure out their shooting options.
