

The Lakers have had many problems in the season that just concluded. The season which could have been one of celebration has been one of utter disappointment. LeBron James and Russell Westbrook, two veteran teammates with contrasting individual seasons suffered the same disappointment.

It was an impressive season from LeBron James averaging over 30 points per game in over 50 games played. However, Russ was often the scapegoat for the team’s struggles. By his standards, it may have been the poorest season of his career. He may have deserved the criticism in a way even though he was not the only thing wrong with the Lakers team.

Westbrook saw a lot of weaknesses this season. Missing jump shots which anyone would expect him to put away with ease, lack of defensive awareness, too many turnovers, and overall lackluster performances. In all honesty, these things were true for all of the Lakers team and not only Russ West.

The team had too many lineup changes; the team looked disjointed most of the time and they could never get things going. However, it seemed like most of the blame was put on Westbrook. Now the former league MVP has opened up about the season.

Russell Westbrook slams the Lakers
Russ West has spoken his mind. Following a poor season with the Lakers, he has practically put the ‘blame’ on situations and circumstances. He spoke about how as the season progressed, he could not express himself as he would have liked to. He also commented about LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and head coach Frank Vogel, who was recently fired from the head coach position.

LeBron and AD many times throughout the season said, “Let Russ be Russ”. The fans were sent into a storm on Twitter as Russ West said, “Well, that wasn’t true. Let’s be honest.”

Russ West also addressed the issues he had with the head coach Frank Vogel and said that he had no idea why things didn’t work out. He said, “I’m not sure what his issue was with me.”

He also spoke about how he felt all season regarding the expectations from him.

“When I first got here, I just felt that I never was given a fair chance to be who I needed to be to better help this team,” Russ said. “Ahh, very rarely. There were times and spurts, but I was just trying to find my way honestly,” said Russ about feeling and playing like himself.

The problems were evident and now after an abysmal season; they are out in the open. We don’t know how the Lakers would look next season, but one thing is for sure, they will need to perform at a much higher level to be back at the top.
