On Thursday night LeBron James put up 28 points as the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Indiana Pacers. With his 28-point effort, James is now closing in on Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s career points record. LeBron is only 63 points away, and the NBA world anticipates that he will break the record on 7th February. The price of tickets for that game against the Oklahoma City Thunder is shooting through the roof as the world’s eyes are on one man. Where were you when LeBron broke the record? is a question that will echo through the walls of the NBA community forever. As the buzz around this feat grows, Media veteran, Colin Cowherd, made a bold claim with LeBron and Michael Jordan on his mind.

LeBron marches toward making the most career points in the league’s history. Hence, the debate around the greatest of all time has intensified. Questions such as, ‘has LeBron dethroned Jordan?’ or ‘does LeBron have an edge over Jordan?’ have appeared. With this in mind, Colin Cowherd stated that the six-time NBA Champion was bothered by James’ growing odds as the greatest of all time.
Does LeBron James threaten Michael Jordan? Colin Cowherd weighs in
Cowherd claimed that “He (LeBron) is in his (Jordan) head.” He presented two incidents to prove his point. The first incident was when the four-time champion won his fourth title with the Cleveland Cavaliers against the Golden State Warriors.

Cowherd stated that when LeBron was parading around Cleveland showing off the championship trophy, the “notoriously private” Jordan spoke to the producers of the Netflix docuseries, ‘The Last Dance’. In his discussion, he asked the producers to fly down to Charlotte for a meeting. The sports anchor supported this statement by quoting the show’s producers, who said, “Yeah the next morning, I was watching TV. LeBron’s at a parade and I was flying to Charlotte to talk with Jordan.”
Cowherd claimed that this move was triggered when James’ popped into the narrative of being the new king of the league. He said, “Pele during his lifetime after his greatness, walked the streets of Brazil. MJ hides. But suddenly, he was terribly available to do a ten-part series, sit down for multiple interviews.”

The second incident revolved around the four-time finals MVP grabbing the world’s attention this week. Cowherd stated that while the world bathed in LeBron’s glory, ESPN decided to celebrate 3rd February 2023 as Michael Jordan day, considering the 2-3-23 date sequence. He called the timing of this celebration as a ‘zany coincidence’.
However, he explained that this was different from ESPN’s idea. Instead, Jordan’s team was instrumental in protecting Jordan’s image of greatness. Cowherd said, “Michael you know, is great. But Michael can be petty.”
