A Russian court near Moscow has sentenced WNBA star Brittney Griner to 9 years in jail. While the prosecutors asked for a 9 and 1/2 year prison sentence, the judge has given 9 years. And before joining the WNBA, Griner was a huge college star for the Baylor Lady Bears in Waco, Texas. She led her team to an NCAA championship win in 2012.

Brittney Griner was named the AP Player of the Year and the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four. She also won the Best Female Athlete ESPY Award in 2012. She is the only NCAA basketball player to score 2,000 points and block 500 shots.
