Luka Doncic is arguably one of the best young talents in the NBA today. This season in particular the Dallas Mavericks star has come out all guns blazing. Currently one of the top favorites for the MVP, the Slovenian superstar is leading the league in scoring. His competitive nature makes him one of the most lethal players on the court. Moreover, Doncic isn’t afraid to go head-on against the top superstars of the league. However, when he came up against Stephen Curry last season, one small mistake cost Dallas the entire season.
Doncic’s playoff run last season was iconic for several reasons. H was the lone star on the Mavericks, a franchise no one saw going deep into the postseason. However, the 23-year-old showed off his magic. His most popular display came against the Phoenix Suns. Notably, Luka Magic humiliated the top-seeded Suns in what was a thrashing of the giants. The win was a statement that the Mavericks won’t back down from any team.

His next challenge was the Golden State Warriors. The former dynast crossed Doncic’s path in the Western Conference Finals. The fans were guaranteed a show. Two of the most elite point guards, Stephen Curry and Luka Doncic were set to battle it out in a duel. In his first-ever conference finals appearance, the 23-year-old decided to taunt the all-time three-point scorer by doing his iconic shimmy celebration. However, that led to disaster as the Dallas Mavericks would soon lose the series 4-1.

Doncic had yet another monster game in the playoffs, scoring 40 points. However, the shimmy became the undoing of the Mavericks. The Golden State Warriors took one step closer to making it to the finals. Taking the series to the brink of a sweep, Curry was unconscious after the Doncic shimmy. He led the way for the reigning champions with 31 points and 11 assists. Moreover, Luka Magic was on the wrong end of a highlight play with Andrew Wiggins slamming the ball right on top of him.

The following game would go in the name of Dallas. However, it was far too late. The Warriors had sent a message loud and clear, they were willing to do anything to be back to the finals. Stephen Curry was named the first-ever Magic Johnson Western Conference Finals MVP averaging 23.8 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 7.4 assists. In the following weeks, he would go on to capture his first Finals MVP honors as the Warriors won their fourth championship in eight years.
