Kareem Abdul-Jabbar retired from professional basketball in 1989. Since then, the Los Angeles Lakers legend isn’t seen much in basketball circles, but instead prefers blogging about his various views on life. Additionally, Cap is a movie buff and loves spending time watching films that are engaging. However, this particular time he was not pleased with his choice. The Lakers legend decided to let go and gave his honest opinion on an M. Night Shyamalan movie, ripping apart the new project of the acclaimed director.

In a lengthy post on his blog, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar let it all out on M. Night Shyamalan’s new movie, Knock at a Cabin. The Lakers legend explained in detail why he would suggest watching something else rather than this particular disappointment of a film.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is in his own words an M. Night Shyamalan fan. However, his recent trip to the theater for a Shyamalan experience didn’t turn out to be quite fruitful. In what was expected to be an eventful few hours, the six-time NBA champion came out irritated and took it upon him to warn the world of his unpleasant experiences. In?his blog Kareem Substack, Kareem declared that Knock at The Cabin was an embarrassing and an unbearable journey.

“I consider it a public service to warn everyone that this may be M. Night Shyamalan?s worst, most insipid movie ever (yes, I?m including the head-scratcher The Happening and the laughably contradictory Signs).” wrote Abdul-Jabbar. He further added, “What makes it especially bad is that the film virtue-signals to be about faith when it actually insults people of faith (as well as those who aren?t).“

The 19-time All-Star is usually patient enough to wait till the end of the year to “round up” all the “bad movies“, but this haunted him, and not as an entertaining movie. Shyamalan?s Knock at the Cabin was made with a budget of $20 Million and even NBA superstars like James Harden were found promoting the movie. The Beard acted in a hilarious 40-second clip with Shyamalan and Doc Rivers for the promotion of the film.

The six-time NBA MVP’s opinion on this is worth listening to, as he’s no stranger to being a part of movies in his storied career. Abdul-Jabbar criticized the movie’s ending where the director, according to the NBA legend, insulted the audience’s intelligence by portraying a God who’s superficial, bloodthirsty and unworthy of worshipping.

Abdul-Jabbar?s career in movies

The Lakers legend was one of the very first NBA players to make an acting debut. Hollywood didn’t usually look at basketball players and consider them for movies, but Abdul-Jabbar helped change the perception. The 19-time All-Star made his acting debut in 1971, and since then he’s seen on and off in acting roles. His most recent appearance was in the 2022 blockbuster hit Glass Onion: A Knives Out Story.
