

The situation surrounding the former WNBA star Britney Griner has taken a huge turn. She was recently arrested in Russia which has triggered mixed responses from the NBA world.
Moreover, when an eminent R&B singer wanted to show her support for Griner, the officials stopped her from doing so. Macy Gray and her team prepared to go out on stage during NBC’s Today Show wearing shirts supporting Griner.

However, the Today team refused to let Macy and her team wear the “Free Britney Griner” t-shirt while they performed on stage. This was confirmed by her keyboardist, Billy Wes, who talked about this issue with the reporters present during the program.
When a reporter asked about the t-shirt, Wes said, “Well they made me turn it inside out. They said I couldn’t wear it, so I had to turn it inside out.“

Although he might have not been allowed to show his support for Griner, Wes made sure he let the world know about his stance. “But y’all know what time it is: Free Brittney!” said Wes before taking the leave of the reporters.
Not only Wes, but Macy Gray also gave her thoughts regarding the situation. Gray prayed for the security and well-being of Britney and also said how the entire t-shirt situation made her sad.

What happened to Britney Griner?
Britney Griner is one of the biggest names in the world of the WNBA. She played for the Phoenix Mercury and is widely regarded as one of the best players in the women’s league. She is a seven-time All-Star and has phenomenal numbers with the Mercury.

Griner averages 17.7 points, 1.8 assists, and 7.6 rebounds in 9 seasons with the Phoenix Mercury. Standing at an incredible 6-foot-9-inch frame, Griner quickly developed into one of the best players in the league after getting drafted in 2013 as the first overall pick.

In February, she was detained in Russia for the possession of illegal substances. Officials found cartridges containing hashish oil in her luggage at the Sheremetyevo airport near Moscow which led to the Russian Federal Customs Service detaining her.
