During the latest edition of the Big Podcast with SHAQ, Shaq, Nischelle, and Spice were having a playful discussion about Shaq joining the Lakers as an assistant coach. Then Spice Adams asked, ?In all seriousness who do you think should be the next head coach??. Shaq replied, ?I think we should give Mark Jackson a shot again. You know we marvel over the splash brothers, Mark Jackson invented that. Steve Kerr took them to the next level, I don?t want to leave him out but Mark Jackson was the one like, ?You know what, I know little guys, people don?t know who you are but come on in and this is the style we are going to play?.?

Mark Jackson would certainly appreciate Shaquille O?Neal?s words. But he hasn?t been a head coach for a few years now. In 2014, the Golden State Warriors fired Mark Jackson even though he led them to consecutive playoff appearances for the first time in over 20 years.

Mark Jackson?s career

In the 1987 NBA draft, the New York Knicks drafted Mark Jackson as the 18th pick. Mark Jackson had an impressive start to life in the NBA. He averaged 13.6 points, 10.6 assists, and 2.5 steals per game in his first season. Averaging a double-double in his first year earned him the Rookie of the Year award.?

His good run continued, and they selected him for the All-Star team in 1989. But he struggled in the seasons following and was traded away to the Clippers in 1993. Subsequently, he played for the Clippers for 2 seasons.

He then spent 6 seasons with the Indiana Pacers in two different stints, with a season in Denver in between. Mark Jackson then signed for the Toronto Raptors for a season before returning to the Knicks for a couple of seasons.?

Jackson then went to the Utah Jazz for a season and then played his last season for the Houston Rockets and retired in the 2003-04 season. Mark Jackson didn?t win an NBA championship during his playing career. He averaged 9.6 points per game, 3.8 rebounds per game, and 8 assists per game while playing 1296 games in his career.

After retiring, Mark Jackson became a broadcast commentator for ESPN and ABC and also worked as an analyst. In 2011 he was appointed as the head coach of the Golden State Warriors. In his coaching career, in 230 games, Mark Jackson registered 121 wins and 109 losses. After three seasons with the Warriors, he was fired by the Warriors front office.
