NBA legend Michael Jordan was the first-ever athlete to be a billionaire. Superstar LeBron James is the first-ever active basketball player to be a billionaire. But how do they fair against billionaire Mark Cuban, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks?

Like Jordan and James, Cuban came from humble beginnings. His father Norton Cuban was an automobile upholsterer. He was interested in business and entrepreneurship at an early age. This helped him learn the ropes of real-world business at a young age.

Cuban graduated from the Kelley School of Business in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science degree in management. During college, he tried his hands at various businesses to earn some money. He founded video portal Broadcast.com with fellow Indiana University alum Todd Wagner in 1995 and sold it to Yahoo for $5.7 billion in 1999.

Cuban then started investing in various startups. And he has been an investor in the “Shark Tank” program since 2011. In 2000, he stepped into professional sports as he became the majority owner of the Mavericks after purchasing the stake for $285 million.

Mark Cuban is a basketball enthusiast, and he plays the game himself. Recently, a video of him sinking multiple shots effortlessly went viral. As per reports, Mark Cuban has a net worth of $4.7 billion. While Michael Jordan has a net worth of $1.7 billion, LeBron James has a net worth of $1 billion. Like Cuban, Jordan is also a majority owner of an NBA team, the Charlotte Hornets.

While Cuban has already won an NBA title as an owner, MJ is yet to. Jordan once revealed that winning a ring as an owner will be sweeter than winning one as a player. That shows how much he wants to win one as an owner of the Hornets. As a very competitive person, MJ hates losing and could not help but watch from the sidelines.

LeBron James on the other hand, recently disclosed that he would like to own a team someday. He even said that he would like to be the owner of an NBA team that is based in Las Vegas. He has already taken a step inside the sports world as an owner after he became a stakeholder in the soccer club Liverpool in the Premier League in the United Kingdom.

The basketball superstars have a long way to go in terms of catching up to Mark Cuban’s net worth. However, it is not impossible.
