Due to the recent gun controversy, Memphis Grizzlies player Ja Morant is trending on every media channel. The 23-year-old basketball star faced an immediate suspension from at least two Grizzlies games and has been put under league investigation. As the news spread like wildfire, Morant released a statement taking full account of his actions and informing fans of his ‘stress’. While his apology has put a lot of fans’ minds to rest, it seems like Hollywood actor/comedian Marlon Wayans needs a little more than just a statement to be convinced.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time Morant was caught up in a controversy. In 2022, the NBA point guard and a couple of his friends were accused of punching and threatening a teenager with a gun during a pick-up game. In turn, Morant claimed that the 17-year-old teen had threatened him back by saying that he was gonna come back and light this place up like fireworks’. However, the case went cold due to a lack of evidence.

Marlon Wayans takes a jab at Ja Morant

In a recent episode of The Daily Show, ‘Scary Movie’ actor Marlon Wayans filled in as the host and went through the latest headlines. As he moves towards the sports section, the first news that pops up is that of Ja Morant. After Morant’s public statement surfaced on the screen, Wayans sarcastically questioned his claims of having stress-related issues.

He says, “I’m sorry but that n**ga don’t look stressed at all. Look at all the stress on his face. I’ve never seen somebody so stressed.” Wayans then points toward his face and says, “N**ga this is stess! How’s that even an explanation? ‘I pulled the gun out because I was stressed’. So is that like an emotional support gun? Like who grabs a gun because you are stressed? N**ga you never heard of chamomile?”

Furthermore, Wayans then points out the size of the gun and says, “What the f*ck is up with the tiny gun? It’s so tiny.” Recalling a scene from Sean Connery’s 1963 movie ‘From Russia With Love’, Wayans adds, “It looks like a gun that the s*xy Russian lady pulls out in the Bond movie.”

Nike stands by Morant

Despite the amount of backlash Ja Morant received from people, multi-billion dollar brand Nike has made their stance clear on the ongoing matter. Following the gun display incident, Nike stated that they ‘We appreciate Ja?s accountability and that he is taking the time to get the help he needs. We support the prioritization of his well-being’.?
