Luka Doncic is arguably one of the most talented players NBA has seen in the last decade. The 22-year-old Slovenian made an instant impact as soon as he was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks in the 2018-19 season.

This season, Doncic has been the go-to guy for his team. While the Mavs have struggled to have a good record, Luka has had a great season so far. In the 26 games he has played, Doncic has averaged 28.5 points, 9.4 assists, and 8.7 rebounds per game.

As a 21-year-old averaging such amazing numbers is startling. He joined an elite duo of LeBron James and Michael Jordan as the third 21-year-old to average 25+ points, 5+ rebounds and 5+ assists.

That is some elite company to be in. This list showcases how special of a player Luka really is. The numbers he is averaging right now are even better than that of majority stars’ best seasons.

It is mind-boggling to see the 21-year-old put on a show day-in and day-out only in the third season of his NBA career. Given that he hasn’t even approached anywhere near his peak,. it is frightening to imagine how good the Slovenian will be in a couple of years.

Before the season started, Luka Doncic was one of the favorites to become the regular season MVP this season. But in a recent poll by ESPN, the Slovenian is currently 9th in the early season MVP race.

Much of it has been due to the dismal start to the season the Mavericks had. But a recent surge in form has saw them win four games in a row. This has resulted in a record of 13 wins and 14 losses and are currently the ninth seed in the Western Conference.

While Doncic has averaged almost a triple double, impressive seasons by Joel Embiid, Nikola Jokic and LeBron James have headlined the NBA this season. Given the Mavs’ disappointing record and the impressive seasons others are having, Doncic might not be MVP candidate just yet.

But given that he is only 21, and was a favorite to win the trophy before the season is the testament to how good Doncic really is. He has been breaking multiple existing records so far. Is he the next big thing after LeBron James?
