Miami Heat Could Get Their Own ‘Giannis Antetoakounmpo’ After Major Update on Shaquille O’Neal’s Son

Shareef O’Neal, son of former Los Angeles Lakers legend Shaquille O’Neal, is all set to make his NBA debut this year. He has qualified for this year’s NBA draft and the world might see him in the summer league. Shaq has called his son ‘Giannis with a jump shot’.

Most people would expect him to be preparing for the Lakers due to Shaq’s long relationship with the franchise. To everyone’s surprise, his desirable spot is Miami Heat.

As per the latest reports, Shareef O’Neal is among the draft prospects for the Heat. He has already been practicing with the Heat’s camp.

Considering he is the son of Shaquille O’Neal, the level of expectations from Shareef is already high. He is undoubtedly the best baller of all of Shaq’s children. Shareef earned offers from Arizona, UCLA, Baylor, California, Georgetown, Kansas State, LSU, and USC for college admissions. Eventually, he enrolled at UCLA. Later, he transferred to LSU. He played in 24 games for LSU during his two seasons there, averaging 2.8 points and 3.1 rebounds in 11.4 minutes per game.

While they have the same blood, there is no comparison between Shaq and Shareef. To be fair, there were only a handful of people who could actually be compared to Shaq during his college years.

The Big Diesel also attended LSU and played for the Tigers for three years. He scored 21.6 points per game, grabbed 13.5 rebounds, and had 4.6 blocks, 1.7 assists, and 1.2 steals.

Shaq averaged 27.6 points, 14.7 rebounds, 5.0 blocks, 1.6 assists, and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 62.8 percent from the field in the 1990-91 season and was named AP Player of the Year.

After spending time in Miami, Shareef joined the Washington Wizards for a pre-draft workout. He’ll also work out with the Milwaukee Bucks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Atlanta Hawks, and the Los Angeles Lakers. Only time will tell where he will end up playing.
