Michael Jordan and Wife Yvette Prieto’s Iconic White House Entry That Was Interrupted Due to Media

The influence and legacy of Michael Jordan extend beyond the realm of sports. The Chicago Bulls legend is unquestionably at the forefront whenever an ordinary sports fan thinks about basketball, iconic sneakers, and a myriad of other things.

Not only was “His Airness” famed for his superior athleticism and technique, but also for the cultural shift he brought from the late-80s to the 90s.

His popularity in the 90s was unparalleled. He inspired and pushed every child in America to be “Like Mike.” Fans couldn’t help but be enthralled by his athletic prowess on the floor. And while fans were enchanted by his wizardry on the court; watching Jordan off the court had them in a trance.

That’s exactly what unfolded when fans saw Michael Jordan with his wife, Yvette Prieto, outside the White House. Despite the breathtaking vista of the White House, all sights and cameras were on the mythic figure. The sight of Jordan in front of their eyes had the hundreds of admirers in a spell.

Michael Jordan was scheduled to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom from then-President Barack Obama in 2016.  He joined 20 others who were the last to receive the nation’s highest civilian honor from President Barack Obama.

Michael Jordan accepted the Presidential Medal of Freedom in November 2016 at the White House. He was joined by fellow NBA legend, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Vin Scully and several other American icons. The medal is considered the greatest civilian distinction that the United States can give to its people.

The legend deserved it as much as anyone for his unparalleled contribution to not only basketball but to sports in general. Jordan is also a growing charitable donor and has been increasingly involved in social welfare.

Obama made many jokes throughout the ceremony, including referring to Jordan as “the guy from ‘Space Jam.’” Despite being the President, spoke about Jordan like a true basketball fan.

“He (Jordan) is more than just the best player on the two greatest teams of all-time: The Dream Team and the 1996 Chicago Bulls. He is more than just a logo, more than just an internet meme. He’s more than just a charitable donor or a business owner committed to diversity. There is a reason you call someone the Michael Jordan of (something)… They know what you’re talking about because Michael Jordan is the Michael Jordan of greatness. He is the definition of somebody so good at what they do that everybody recognizes it. That’s pretty rare.”
