Nowadays, he’s more in the headlines for his relationship with pop star Rihanna than any musical achievements. However, his comparison with NBA Hall-of-Famer Grant Hill created some controversy in the NBA Twitter space.
In an article drawing similarities between rappers and basketball players who have failed to reach their true potential, A$AP Rocky drew comparisons with former Pistons guard Grant Hill. NBA Twitter was not too impressed with the comparison.

Grant Hill and the Jordan complex
When Grant Hill was first drafted in the league in 1994, he was expected to fill the void that Michael Jordan left in the NBA. Fans believed he was the heir to Jordan’s legacy.
It was hard to argue the expectations surrounding Hill. He was a shooting guard who had the athleticism to storm the basket.

In addition, he had tremendous ball control and flashy handles. Therefore, he could cross over world-class defenders at will and reach the basket.

The 7-time All-star had incredible basketball IQ and an inherent understanding of the game. He could blitz defenders with his fast moves and go both left and right.

The late 90s and early 2000s had no answer for this prototype of a player. In his first six seasons with the Pistons, he averaged 21.6 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 6.3 assists.
However, he suffered a career-ending ankle injury in 2000 which would adversely impact the rest of his career.

In the 12 seasons after the injury, Hill averaged only 13.1 points, 4.7 boards, and 2.6 dimes.

NBA fans weren’t too impressed with the Grant Hill-A$AP Rocky comparison, which led to Grant Hill trending on social media. Fans were not reluctant to express their indignation at the sheer absurdity of the comparison.

Some fans pointed out that Hill is a 7-time NBA All-star and a part-owner of an NBA franchise. It is disrespectful and ignorant to compare the two very different personalities.
