This was not a good season for Charlotte Hornets as they crashed out in the play-in tournament again. LaMelo Ball, the team’s all-star PG failed to guide his team to the playoffs. And now fans are clamoring about whether we overrate him as a player. Charlotte has been looking to build the team around him since Kemba Walker left them in free agency in 2019.

Lamelo became an All-Star in his second year in the league. Ever since being drafted second overall by Charlotte in the 2020 NBA Draft, Lamelo has been seen as a franchise-changing PG. Even with him improving his overall play, fans are questioning whether Lamelo has it in to change the course of the franchise?
Concern for LaMelo?
Fans are now asking questions regarding his ability to bring a championship to Charlotte.
With the eastern conference loading up on talent and suddenly being the tougher of the two, it will be difficult for Charlotte to contend soon. Here are some of the fan reactions:

But there is another school of thought here which believes that fans need to give LaMelo a break as he is just a 20-year-old right now and will continue to grow and improve as a player. He definitely needs more time to mature as a player and hit his peak.

Even the legends struggle in their early years
On the other side of this debate are fans who believe that we should give Lamelo time to grow. They claim that even Michael Jordan, who is the current owner of the team, didn’t win his first championship till he was 28 years old. Even LeBron James struggled with the Cavaliers early in his career before eventually winning four rings. Playoffs disappointments are sometimes taken as part and parcel of the game. Which eventually makes the team and the player better. Here are some of the fan reactions supporting Lamelo Ball :
People talking about LaMelo Ball’s days being numbered in Charlotte .. 🤣 he a 20 year old. Y’all realize Michael Jordan didn’t even win a title till he was 28 years old? Instant gratification is poison ‼️‼️‼️
