His efforts towards creating a society with equal chances gave birth to his Jordan Brand Wings program. Since its inception in 2014, the initiative has helped fund 1800 full-ride scholarships. Their aim remains to create an even playing field and opportunities for underserved youth.

One of the students of the program shared her experience and how MJ helped changed her life around.
Michael Jordan: A savior for the underserved
One student whose life Jordan flipped was Dyamond Baker. Growing up in a single-parent household with two siblings, her resources couldn’t get her an out-of-state college. This is where the Wings program came in and changed her life forever. Baker was able to attend Xavier University in Louisiana on a fully paid scholarship thanks to Michael Jordan.

Likewise, she remains ever so grateful for MJ’s life-altering move. Baker said: “I never really knew a lot about him. But Michael Jordan has helped change my life.” She continued saying, “He’s paying for my education. Aside from what he did in basketball, he’s a legend for allowing me to go to college.”

The program has allowed students to attend any college they are selected in. It truly gives all people part of the program the ability to fly like MJ himself. Moreover, his contributions to charity only continue to grow. During the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement, the five-time MVP pledged to donate $100 million over 10 years to fight for racial justice and equality.
