Bucks legend shuts Michael Jordan

In an episode of the Netflix docuseries The Last Dance, a certain throwback photo of Michael Jordan caught the viewers’ eyes. It was a picture of MJ in his college dorm and the wall behind him had a poster of former Milwaukee Bucks superstar Marques Johnson. In an episode of No Chill with Gilbert Arenas, the 1975 NCAA champion recalled the time he met Jordan while the latter was shooting in LA for the 1996 movie, Space Jam.

According to Johnson, MJ had dialed UCLA and asked them to bring a few of the basketball players as he was in town. Johnson’s oldest son, Kris Johnson, was a UCLA student at the time therefore Johnson would often go for a run with Kris. However, before the run, he and Kris would play lightweight three-on-three. As Johnson attempted a lightweight dunk at the end of their run, Jordan called Johnson out and told him to not dunk as it was not part of Johnson’s game.

In most cases, the person on the receiving end of Jordan’s trash-talks would be baffled or come up with a weak reply but not Johnson. The former NBA forward responded by reminding MJ that he had Johnson’s poster on his wall so however he was playing, he was playing right. Jordan then admitted that Johnson was his favorite player and that he used to love his game.

Did MJ ruin Muggsy Bogues’ career?

While Marques Johnson might have succeeded in getting to the Chicago Bulls legend, former NBA star Muggsy Bogues did not have such luck. It was during the 1995 NBA Playoffs and the Charlotte Hornets were lacking behind by one to the Chicago Bulls. Bogues, who was in possession of the ball, needed to make a basket while Jordan was guarding him.

Bogues, who is the shortest player in the league’s history, was given the space by MJ who had stepped back saying, “Shoot it you fucking midget.”

Bogues did not make the shot and lost to the Bulls by 85-84. According to Hornets’ then-coach Johnny Bach, Bogues shared that the moment with MJ ruined his entire career. Evidently, Bogues did not average more than 5.9 PPG for the rest of his NBA career.
