Charlotte Hornets’ play-in elimination loss to the Atlanta Hawks threw a spanner in the hopes of the front office’s vision for the future of the franchise. Following Kemba Walker’s decision to walk away from them in 2019. But things are about to get a lot more interesting.

While the game itself was not as close as players on Charlotte’s team would have liked. One player in particular, i.e. Miles Bridges, was not at all amused. Bridges, along with phenom point guard LaMelo Ball, had the Hornets sixth in the standings in January. But last night lost his cool when he threw a mouthpiece into the stands which eventually hit a fan while going into the locker room.

Bridges later apologized via a tweet saying it was unacceptable .

This may be the same problem which the clippers had last season when Pat Beverly shoved Chris Paul in the back during the WCF and this was instrumental in him getting traded to the Timberwolves in the off-season.

A tough decision ahead 

Now you need to realize that Miles is an important part of the young core that the front office is setting up in Charlotte and, along with Lamelo, is a future team veteran. But with him commanding a possible five years, $173 million dollar extension, it could become a tough decision for the Michael Jordan-owned team.

The Jordan-owned franchise has struggled to consistently perform in the NBA. But right now they’re finally looking to establish themself as a franchise of the future.

While Bridges certainly outperformed the four-year, $60 million contract, he was offered last summer; we will see whether the front office believes in him. Furthermore, Miles will get a max contract offer if he hits the market .

They also need to make sure that the mouthpiece throwing incident is just a one-off incident and not a reoccurring problem. This is because many teams suffered heavily due to players with anger issues. None so more famous than the 2004-05 Indiana Pacers.

Michael Jordan certainly has a tough decision on his hands as he tries to tackle this $173 million dollar issue while finally trying to achieve the stability and consistency he has desired in his franchise for so long.
