When you think of Chicago, Michael Jordan is one of the first names that comes to mind. MJ is widely considered to be the greatest basketball player ever. He was the face of the league and helped globalize the sport like no one else. The Chicago Bulls became prominent during Jordan’s time with the franchise. Jordan was with the Bulls for a total of 12 years and lead them to six NBA Championships.

MJ Rookie card was stolen during the burglary

A sports memorabilia shop in Chicago was burglarized on the 31st of May. According to Chicago Police Department, a?male suspect removed metal bars from the shop and broke in through a back window. The business’s owner, Ronnie Holloway, released a video from inside the store during the time of the burglary.

Amongst the several items stolen by the man during the burglary, perhaps the most valuable and important piece of sports memorabilia was the ‘1986 Michael Jordan Rookie cards’. The man escaped with over $100k worth of merchandise, including an already opened Fleer packet of MJ rookie cards, worth $25k alone. Other rare cards were also stolen, including those of Larry Bird, Walter Payton, Babe Ruth and Jackie Robinson.

The Legend of Michael Jordan

Jordan still holds a special place in the hearts of Chicago natives, so it is understandable that they would feel disappointed. He is a legendary figure who helped bring a lot of joy and success to the city. It might even be said that he helped bring relevancy to a once unknown and poorly run organization.

MJ is a 6-time Finals MVP, 5-time MVP, 14-time All-Star, and a 10-time scoring champion among a plethora of achievements. His CV is enough to make anyone understand the importance of ‘His Airness’ to not just the city of Chicago, but to the global basketball community.

The thief probably took his cards first knowing they will sell at an extremely high price.

A reward has been placed on the arrest or conviction of the burglar. Let’s hope the rare memorabilia is returned to the shop owner as soon as possible.
