What unites Michael Jordan and Barack Obama? Their love for basketball. Jordan, of course, cemented his legacy in the game as one of the greatest of all time and Obama has always been vocal about his love for the game. One can only expect great collaborations when these two big wigs come together.

Jordan had previously donated $10,000 to Barack Obama in 2004 during Obama’s Senate run. He also spent a sizeable amount of $3 million to host a fundraiser for Obama’s re-election campaign in 2012. The event was titled, ‘Obama Classic’.

When Barack Obama got Jordan’s support and cheque in 2004, he was thrilled. He said, “I wasn’t sure whether I should cash it or frame it”. Obama had also expressed that Jordan’s Chicago Bulls was his favorite.

For the 2012 fundraiser, they added more events and exhibitions. The campaign director, Marlon Marshall had stated that shooting hoops with NBA greats and conversing with the President was the stuff of dreams.

The evening saw a roster of high-profile personalities, including Carmelo Anthony, Rajon Rondo, John Wall, Sheryl Swoopes, and Dawn Staley among many others.

Barack Obama tipped his hat to the basketball legend, Michael Jordan when he referenced a game terminology during his speech.

“We are in the fourth quarter. We are up by a few points, but the other side is coming strong, and they play a little dirty,” Obama said.

Barack Obama also made fun of himself and joked that it was rare for him to be present at an event where he was “the fifth or sixth most interesting person”.

About five years ago, Michael Jordan received the nation’s highest civilian honor. Barack Obama himself conferred Jordan with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Michael Jordan’s 15 years in the league catapulted him as one of the greatest athletes of all time, not just in basketball, but sports in general.
