

Mike Tyson is considered one of the toughest men in the world of sports. He has been a household name as he showed grit and tenacity in every single bout. Nowadays, he hosts a podcast called “Hotboxin with Mike Tyson”. He has guests from diverse backgrounds, from Joe Rogan to Eminem. He recently had former NBA players and ESPN analysts Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson as guests. Both have won one NBA championship as role players in their respective teams. Jackson won it in 2003 with the Tim Duncan led San Antonio Spurs and Barnes won a chip with the famed Golden State Warriors team in 2017.

Jackson and Barnes revealed a lot in their conversation with the both of them. Both of them host a podcast show on Showtime called “All the Smoke”. They were asked about smoking marijuana during the early 2000’s and giving voice to NBA players. Jackson said, “At the time, we wasn’t smoking. We weren’t smoking for people to notice, we were smoking to get through games and just to make it to play the next game. We were playing four games in four nights. So, when we smoked, we needed it. Nowadays, people smoke just so people can see them smoking or to be cool.”

He continued, “We smoked the whole time and got away with it”. Jackson mentions he smoked in the car. He states they can be spokespersons now because they had respectable careers. Jackson also mentioned that other players owe a lot to them because nowadays they don’t get tested. Their protests led to this change. Mike Tyson was very thankful to them for bring this change.

Jackson and Barnes as players
Stephen Jackson was a role player for various teams. From the championship winning Spurs side to the “We Believe” Warriors team. He retired from the game in 2014 when he played for the Clippers.
Matt Barnes won his only championship in his last year with the Golden State Warriors. He was considered a serviceable role player for any team in the NBA. Both of them are journeyman changing from one franchise to another.
