NBA legend late Kobe Bryant was one of the most influential players the league has ever seen. He played his entire career with the Los Angeles Lakers and helped them win five NBA championships. He has also won multiple individual accolades during his long and illustrious career.
When Bryant made the leap from high school to the league, not everyone believed that he would be a legend of the game when it’s all said and done. Even though there was some hype around him, people didn’t have confidence in a rookie coming straight out of high school.

Another legend who made the jump from high school to the NBA is Tracy McGrady, who was a long-term friend of Kobe Bryant. While the Los Angeles Lakers got Bryant in 1996, the Toronto Raptors drafted McGrady in 1997. And McGrady turned to Bryant for advice now and then, since Bryant was there earlier.

McGrady replied, “I just felt like you know, he’s been there, in those shoes. And I felt like what better person to learn from. This is all new to me and [he’s] somebody that’s already been through it. And we hit it off. Stayed in his house, watching karate flicks. We went to a spot. I was scared as hell because we ran into Mike Tyson!”
And Kobe Bryant and McGrady couldn’t control their laughter as they went back in time, thinking about the moment they met Tyson.
