A heated spat is an acceptable part of any game, it comes with the territory. While on most occasions it remains contained, when shit hits the fans it becomes a serious problem. Dragging an athlete’s family members into the uncalled-for feud is one way of making it a problem for many at once. A family member of the Boston Celtics star Al Horford faced the brutality of fans on Twitter.

A tweet from Horford’s sister, Anna Horford rubbed fans the wrong way. Her tweet after the Celtics won over the Philadelphia 76ers in a 107-110 game. She wrote on Twitter, “Sad night for the city that cannot be named? again.” This was enough for the 76ers fans to storm onto her timeline and create a terrible situation out of it. The Celtics and 76ers have a long-standing rivalry in their history but it would be unfair to say that responses to her tweet equate to the rivalry. After all, she is not a member of the team playing against the 76ers.

Anna ticked off LeBron James’ fans

However, this is not the first time that Anna Horford had to face the ugly side of social media. In January of 2023 during a Los Angeles Lakers game vs the Celtics, she took a dig at LeBron James. During the last minutes of the fourth quarter, James presented an animated response in frustration. He missed a layup and asked the referee to call a foul, which was denied. Though later the referees admitted wrong on their end, the damage was done.

Crossing the line

Anna wrote on Twitter, “I tweeted & deleted ?And the Oscar goes to? about Lebron?s reaction & Lakers fans lost their damn minds. Like, that was one of my mildest tweets ever?“. When she was asked by a fan why she deleted the tweet. She replied saying, People started sending too many threats.” She received multiple death threats over that deleted tweet.

Anna had answers for the people telling her not to taunt fans because these are the types of responses you’d get.? She said, “I said nothing to warrant death & r*pe threats, you absolute psycho. I have no problem with rivalries & banter, the line was crossed. Stop with the bulls?t.”
